Weirdo funk? Loner boogie? Fresh Beat! Stones Throw’s James Pants’ music comes out of him in the tradition of skewed bedroom funk, sounding like the tapes in the basement of a forgotten funk superstar from Spokane.
As any self-respecting funk pioneer would, producer and engineer James Pants has carved out his own genre, Fresh Beat, which is a kind of tribute to everything hyperfuturist and at the same time quaint about the 80s. Pants pays tribute to the synthesised sounds and fabrics of the 80s all this in his music, giving all his tracks the fusion-y spirit of the time when people were taking lifechanging synthesisers home for the very first time and experimenting all night till something weird materialised.
JP’s live set brings this weirdness to the stage with an amalgamation of live and recorded drums and simmering earnest vocals. Enter the bedroom of James Pants’ mind!
