It’s been more than 30 years since DJ Spanish Fly first ignited the Memphis rap scene, now the Godfather of Memphis Rap is bringing his legendary sound to Australia for his debut tour. DJ Spanish Fly’s influence is immeasurable. From his early days as the house DJ at M-Town’s No Name and Expo Clubs in the late ‘80s, he laid the foundation for what would become a global rap movement. His pioneering mixtapes, shared hand-to-hand at New Orleans’ Mardi Gras and Freaknik in Atlanta, paved the way for the likes of Three 6 Mafia, 8Ball & MJG, Tommy Wright III, and countless others.

Now, after over three decades in the game, the beloved NTS Resident Host DJ Spanish Fly is more than a legend — he’s a living testament to the gritty, relentless hustle of Memphis rap. His sound, defined by 808 beats and gangsta themes, became the blueprint for an entire generation of artists with his contributions to the scene now enshrined in an exhibit at Memphis Museum while major universities deliver a study units dedicated to his work.
